Namibia is a southern African country with a moderately developed economy wedged between the Kalahari Desert and the Atlantic Ocean. It shares borders with Angola, and Zambia to the north, Botswana to the east, and South Africa to the south. NAMIBIA is Africa's youngest nation, having gained independence in 1991. Together with the arid wilderness regions of Kaokoveld and Damaraland, the Namib Desert occupies much of the country. This desert is a result of the cold Benguela Current, which flows northwards from Antarctica and prevents the development of moist onshore conditions. Approximately three times the size of Germany, Namibia's total population is only 1.5 million. The famous Etosha National Park is among a number of well-managed wildlife reserves, and there are vast areas of complete wilderness.
Namibia has become a popular safari destination with remote intimate lodges offering unique opportunities to become involved with the cultural heritage of all its peoples.
The many national parks and game reserves offer a huge variety of wildlife from giraffes in the Etosha National Park, Oryx on the dunes of Sossusvlei and thousands of seals on the beaches of the Skeleton Coast.
